Professor E. Bryan Coughlin
Department of Polymer Science and Engineering
University of Massachusetts, Amherst
Prof. E. Bryan Coughlin earned his B.A. in Chemistry from Grinnell College and completed his Ph.D. in Chemistry at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). Before launching his academic career in 1999, he worked in the industry and is credited as a co-inventor of DuPont’s Versipol polyolefin technology platform. Bryan’s research focuses on synthesizing novel macromolecular structures to solve global societal challenges, including designing advanced chemical processes to reduce plastic waste, developing advanced materials for electrochemical devices, and synthesizing fire-safe polymers and composites. During this academic year, Bryan is on sabbatical, and we are delighted to host him at Penn!
